Reading passage — قطعة القراءة
A storm warning reached a coastal village while most families were preparing for a local festival. The school science club had built a small emergency radio for a classroom exhibition, and its members wondered whether the device could help people receive updates during power cuts. Their teacher explained that reliable warnings must come from the official emergency service, not from rumours or guesses.
The club checked the radio's batteries and worked with a community organiser to prepare an information board. It listed emergency phone numbers, safe meeting places and ways to support neighbours who might need extra help. During a practice drill, volunteers noticed that some instructions were difficult to hear in a crowded hall. They simplified the language and printed larger signs for people at the back.
The storm changed direction and did not seriously damage the village. Some pupils thought their preparation had been unnecessary, but the organiser disagreed. A successful safety plan should be useful even when the worst outcome never happens. The students learned that preparedness involves reliable information, clear communication and regular practice rather than frightening predictions.
