Reading passage — قطعة القراءة
A local news website published a headline saying that most teenagers never read books. The article included a graph from a survey of sixty volunteers at one sports centre. Mona, who enjoyed both sports and novels, wondered whether the headline really represented students across the country. In her media class, she examined the research method before deciding what the graph meant.
Her group discovered that the survey asked only about printed books read in the previous week. It did not ask about electronic books, school assignments or reading during holidays. It also included very few students who did not attend the sports centre. The graph's colours made a small difference look dramatic, although the original numbers showed a much more limited finding.
Mona wrote a short correction for the class website. She did not claim that the survey was useless; it still described the habits of its particular participants. However, it could not support the broad statement in the headline. Her teacher reminded everyone to check a report's sample, questions and scale. The lesson helped Mona realise that accurate numbers can still create a misleading impression when their context is hidden.
