The Photograph That Told Half a Story

Reading passage —

A picture of a flooded schoolyard spread quickly through a student group. The message below it claimed that lessons would stop for the rest of the month. Some students celebrated, while others worried about their coming exams. Hala noticed that the photograph showed no date, and the message did not mention an official announcement.

She searched the school website and found a notice about repairing one damaged gate. The notice said that lessons would continue as usual through another entrance. Hala then looked more closely at the shared image and recognised a banner from a sports day held two years earlier. The photograph was real, but somebody had attached a false story to it.

Hala wrote a calm message explaining what she had checked and included a link to the school notice. She did not accuse the person who first shared the image of lying deliberately. In class the next morning, her teacher asked everyone to identify the source, date and missing context before forwarding important news. The group agreed that a convincing picture is not always reliable evidence.
