Reading passage — قطعة القراءة
After several unusually hot summers, a city council asked students to study where people could find shade during the school day. Rasha's group walked along main routes and measured temperature differences between open pavements and streets with trees. They noticed that some neighbourhoods had parks and covered bus stops, while others offered little protection from the afternoon sun.
The team interviewed residents and learned that older people and outdoor workers were particularly concerned about long waits in exposed areas. Rasha proposed a map showing places where shade was missing. Her group suggested planting suitable trees, maintaining drinking-water points and adding roofs at busy stops. They also noted that planting a tree is not enough unless somebody can water and care for it during its early years.
The council could not implement every suggestion immediately, but it selected two stops for improvements. The students agreed to measure changes again after several months. Rasha saw that climate planning involves both scientific evidence and fairness: people facing the greatest risks should be included in decisions, even when they have the least influence over city budgets.
