Reading passage — قطعة القراءة
At a coastal education centre, a group of students watched a documentary about coral reefs. Many expected coral to behave like a plant, but their instructor explained that coral is made of tiny animals living in colonies. She showed how reefs provide shelter for fish and protect coastlines. The students were surprised that a fragile ecosystem could support so many different forms of life.
During a beach visit, the group noticed plastic waste near a drainage channel. The instructor warned them that cleaning one stretch of sand would not solve every pollution problem, but it could help if they also recorded what they found. Students sorted their collection safely with adult supervision and counted the common kinds of packaging. They shared the findings with local shops that could reduce unnecessary disposable materials.
A volunteer diver later explained that reef protection also depends on careful tourism and wider action to reduce warming seas. The students decided to prepare signs asking visitors not to touch marine life or leave rubbish behind. They understood that protecting the sea requires many actions, from local waste prevention to international cooperation, rather than a single beach clean-up.
